Why the Groom stands on the right
Long ago, the right arm was considered the sword arm of most fighting men. If a man had to protect his bride, he would hold her with his left hand, and fight off attackers with his right arm.
Quite often the women had been kidnapped, naturally family members wanted to rescue the stolen brides. Sometimes even during the wedding ceremony, the grooms had to fight off other men who were desirous of their brides, along with the bride's family members. So having his right arm free was an important strategy.
This tradition is followed today by when facing the officiant, having the bride stand to the left, and the groom stand to the right.
Brides wearing white
The tradition of wearing white isn't even that old, really. It gained popularity when Queen Victoria of England married Albert of Saxe-Coberg in 1840, wearing a white gown to incorporate some lace that she owned. At that time, a white wedding dress was extremely uncommon, and not a sign of purity, but a sign of wealth -- for only very wealthy women could afford a dress that could never be worn again (cleaning a white dress was not so easy in 1840).
Though many copied the queen's style for their own weddings, it still wasn't until the mid-20th century that white came to dominate the wedding dress market, as pictures and videos from weddings of the world's wealthiest and most famous really spread the trend.
Before Victoria, brides married in almost any color, except black, the color of mourning, and red, which was associated with prostitutes. Brides who wanted to wear a symbol of their purity wore blue.

Why Does the Bride Wear a Veil?
It's commonly believed that it is bad luck for groom to see his bride in her dress before the ceremony, and therefore a veil was used to conceal her. In fact, in the case of some arranged marriages, the groom rarely saw his bride at all before the wedding day. If she was ugly, a veil might have prevented him from running away. Veiling the bride is a symbolic way of tantalizing the groom by concealing her beauty until he becomes her husband and is permitted to see her. In some cultures it is considered a sign of submission, and in others veils were worn to keep away demons. This also accounts for the bridal party dressing the same, to confuse them.
Veils came into vogue in the United States when Nelly Curtis wore a veil at her wedding to George Washington's aid, Major Lawrence Lewis. Major Lewis saw his bride to be standing behind a filmy curtain and commented to her how beautiful she appeared. She then decided to veil herself for their ceremony.
Veils however, in Western Society have just become something beautiful to top off the georgeous white dress, I mean it certainly makes the bride stand out from the crowd.
